So I was planning to climb a few days a week at Ton Sai or Railay beach. But I’m not going to do that anymore. I’m staying in Ao Nang and learned of a new crag called Spirit Mountain. It is about a 10 minute ride from my room and has dozens of routes ranging in difficulty from 5 up to 7c. Now it doesn’t have the views that Ton Sai and Railay are famous for but it’s supposed to be good climbing and it’s so close it makes sense to check it out first.
The approach also can’t be beat. Only 1 or 2 minutes on foot. The directions I found online weren’t the best but I did get there:
But… Tomorrow it is off to Ton Sai beach if it’s not raining. Apparently that’s the only place one can buy climbing gear. My climbing partner is in need of some climbing shoes. So we’re headed there and I think I’ll try to get a send on this route: http://www.mountainproject.com/v/pahn-taa-lod-aka-schlingel-moritz/105896223 But after that I’ll be spending as much time as I can at Spirit Mountain over the next month or so.
